Why every skin consultation should end with things you don’t need.

A lot of people that I see are using more products than they need and often ones that aren’t the best choices for their skin. Truthfully, I don’t blame them.

By now if you’ve been following me for a while you’ve heard me say a number of times that the misinformation out there is overwhelming. Open social media and you’ll see hundreds of products making promises like glass skin.

Skin consultations aren't about building the biggest routine possible. They're about figuring out what will actually move the needle for your skin and just as importantly, what won't.

Sometimes the most valuable thing I can tell a client is what they don't need. The goal isn't to add more. The goal is to create clarity.

More Products Doesn't Mean Better Results

When someone comes in for a consultation, I'm looking at the whole picture. Your skin concerns, your lifestyle, budget, goals, and the amount of time you're realistically willing to spend caring for your skin.

A routine that works on paper isn't useful if you’re not likely to follow it.

Many people come in with a collection of products purchased from recommendations, trends, influencer videos, or well-meaning friends. Most of the time there's overlap. Sometimes there are ingredients working against each other. Occasionally there are products creating problems that another product is trying to fix.

Education First, Everything Else Second

One of my core values is education. My role is to help you understand your skin, separate fact from marketing, and make informed decisions about where your time and money are best spent (or not spent). Sometimes that means recommending products or treatments. Sometimes it means suggesting you finish what you already have at home.

What Happens in a Consultation?

I can't give you the best advice without first understanding you.

We'll talk about your goals, your current routine, what you like and don't like in products, and what you're hoping to get out of our time together. I'll ask a lot of questions.

I also like to see your skin.

We'll do a cleanse, a full skin analysis, and I'll apply a few products so that you leave with hydrated, protected skin (SPF included).Hopefully you'll also leave with a clearer understanding of what your skin actually needs.

What I won’t do is turn our time into a sales pitch. I may recommend products I carry or treatments I offer if I think they're a good fit. I'm also just as likely to recommend products from elsewhere if they're the better option for you. There is never any expectation to purchase anything. And unless your current products are damaging your skin I’ll recommend you finish them before making any changes. No need to waste anything.

A skin consultation should leave you feeling lighter. Not weighed down by a longer shopping list.

When you walk out, you’ll have hydrated, protected skin, a personalized plan, and the reassurance that you don’t have to do more to get better results. You just have to do what’s right for your skin.

And when the follow‑up email arrives, you’ll have everything we discussed laid out simply, so you can revisit it anytime without pressure, overwhelm, or guesswork. Just clarity, education, and a routine that finally makes sense.
